Mr. Long Weekend explores a fascination with notions of the masculine. The series draws specifically on representations of masculinity played out in a stereotypical Canadian context over the course of summer long weekends. Turning the camera on himself, Ironside stages hyper-real representations of his own gender. Ironside’s approach is that of an outsider looking in. As a gay male; his engagement with these representations lie in their elusiveness in the past, present and future.
