The Prophet
Directed by Gary Tarn
75 Min | UK | North American Premiere
The Prophet takes Kahlil Gibran’s book of poetic prose and spins it into a cinematic exploration of love, life and loss. Filmmaker and composer Gary Tarn takes an intimate narration performed by Thandie Newton and sets it to a score for orchestra, cello, guitar and synthesizer. The unique soundtrack is juxtaposed with images shot on Tarn’s solo travels—to Serbia, Lebanon, America and Italy amongst others—creating a tapestry of people and places that serves to illustrate Gibran’s words. Finding beauty in the everyday, the film leaves space for each viewer to find their own interpretation of the mesmerizing words that tell the story of The Prophet, with its inspirational blend of Eastern and Western philosophy.
