Todai-ji Temple is considered to be the Eastern end of the Silk Road running through Eurasia from Rome. Trade and cultural exchange in the 8th century resulted in the statues, buildings, music instruments, and craft works at this temple. These artifacts survived more than 1000 years, carrying the universal spirit of ancient times. Ito is one of only a few photographers who have been permitted to document the national treasures at the Todai-ji Temple.
