Liza Nguyen talks with Dr. Robin Roth on Souvenirs of Vietnam

Artist Liza Nguyen engages in a conversation with Dr. Robin Roth about Souvenirs of Vietnam, a feature exhibition at CONTACT 2007. Nguyen’s exhibition includes images taken in Vietnam in 2004, the 30th anniversary of the fall of Saigon. Her series Surface features pictures of samples of soil collected from historic sites of battle.

Names such as Hanoi, Saigon and My Lai evoke vivid images of horrific events, the ground a metaphor for a stained history. French-born of Vietnamese descent, Nguyen will discuss her personal journey to her family’s homeland and the events which inspired the work.

Dr. Robin Roth is a professor of geography at York University with a special interest in Vietnam.
