George Whiteside, Harley Valentine

Valentine examines Louis Riel, martyred Canadian revolutionary, in a series of mixed media works. Riel’s rebellion against the Canadian Government and influence over the Metis people are the driving themes in the work. Whiteside exhibits Polaroids from his archive, shot on the streets of Toronto in 1979. Defaced poster images of Communist revolutionary leaders illuminate the powerless nature of a once pervasive propaganda. Whiteside’s work, The Internationalists, will be presented as a full wall installation.
