Canada Then and Now: Bartlett’s Canadian Scenery Engravings 175 Years Later

May 11–15, 2016
Peter MacKendrick Community Gallery at Artscape Wychwood Barns
601 Christie St

A selection of photographs from 119 journeys to the sites where the landscape artist William Bartlett drew his famous 1838 views of Canada – among the last images of the pre-photographic era. With each photograph alongside the original engraving, the viewer can see how Canada has changed over the last 175 years. This exhibition also issues invitations to artists to add a third work to the image pair to interpret the same scene through contemporary lenses.
