The Strand Theatre

Starr’s documentary photographs, ironically shot on 35mm film, explore the final days of The Strand Theatre in Beaverton, ON (population 2,500). The widespread industry shift to digital technology forced many small, independent cinemas, like The Strand Theatre, to close their doors. Prior to its closure, it was run by Vern and Gladys Flaherty for over 60 years, and is home to the first projector to run motion pictures in Canada.
