Presented by Trinity Square Video
The works in the 2020 CONTACT Festival Core Exhibition Performing Lives by artists Bertille Bak, Lisa Jackson, Yoshua Okón, Helen Reed, and May Truong shed light on alternative forms of storytelling and strategies for viewer engagement. More than ever, our lives as spectators are tied to screens and their associated moving images, during which our abilities to trust and enjoy the bombardment of information is at risk. Performing Lives offers a critical perspective not only on the content of the stories portrayed, but also on the subjects responsible for their delivery and expression.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and reflecting present capacities, Trinity Square Video, in consultation with curator Zoë Chan and the artists, decided that Performing Lives should be presented on a virtual platform, as an online exhibition. The artworks included were previously exhibited physically at OPTICA (Montréal, QC), in 2018. Current circumstances present the opportunity to explore the potential of hosting them together online, for audiences and various communities to enjoy at home, and CONTACT and Trinity Square Video are pleased to share them now.
